What IS School Council?
Welcome to Kars on the Rideau School Council and our website! We have created this to invite parents to interact with the school and understand more about what we do. This site also helps explain what events we are organizing and how parents can volunteer at the school. Our information is intended to complement the official KOTR school website. Although we highlight Council initiatives here, we try to include ALL school events for parents in the interest of providing a complete picture of everything that's going on at KOTR!
SCHOOL COUNCIL OBJECTIVES
School Council offers all parents, volunteers, and community members an opportunity to interact with the school principal and staff and advise them on matters important to their child’s education. We also strive to enhance student life in partnership with the school staff. As we interact with parents and other community resources, we can enrich experiences at school for our students. Without Council and the parent-driven fund-raising it supports, many activities our kids enjoy at school could not be easily delivered.
WHO IS SCHOOL COUNCIL?
School Council consists of parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school plus community representatives, teachers, and administrative/support staff. Certain members of Council are elected annually by their peers at the first Council meeting of the school year. Some of these roles come with specific responsibilities throughout the year, but many parents involved with Council simply come to an occasional meeting or just want to be on our mailing list. Whatever your time commitment, there is always room to become involved.
More detail about Council administration, elected positions and coordinator roles are described in our Council Bylaws.
WHERE TO BEGIN
School Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm in the school library. All parents/guardians and interested members of the community are encouraged to attend the meetings and express their views – or just listen to see what is going on!
Any time or expertise you can lend helps our school and our kids. Come out and see what Council is all about. Or
Contact Us if you have any questions about what we are doing next!
